ITINERARY
Your personal driver-guide will pick-you up from your central London hotel or place of residence at 8am. Then, after an initial fast-route from London, we investigate Oxford, a city famous throughout the world as an ancient seat of learning. With over 40 colleges, and numerous university buildings spanning the medieval to Georgian architectural spectrum, the city is stunningly picturesque. The poet Matthew Arnold famously described it as ‘That sweet city with her dreaming spires’.

This is where Chief Inspector Morse (played by the late John Thaw) and his trusty sidekick Lewis battled against the secretive world of academia as they investigated crimes in the famous university town. The series stayed remarkably true to the original novels by Colin Dexter, not least because the author was prominent in the television adaptations. The series now has two spin-offs, with Lewis in an eponymous role, and a younger Morse in Endeavour. Your driver-guide will suggest appropriate lunch options.

We will visit the Ashmolean Museum to see the jewel made famous by the popular early episode The Wolvercote Tongue. we will also pop into the hotel opposite that features the Morse Bar, renamed in honour of the character’s appearances here. And see the spot where Morse gives up the ghost in the very last episode, The Remorseful Day.

If open to the public, we will visit a college. Your guide will explain the mysterious traditions of the collegiate system, which sets it apart from other centres of academia, and the real world!  We also visit a number of other locations that featured in the series, including streets, historic buildings and Morse’s favourite respite, pubs! There are many watering holes, including the hidden pub where former US President Bill Clinton infamously ‘didn’t inhale’!
