Tower of London, Changing of the Guard, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, Royal Quarter. The Monarchy is an illogical British institution over 1,000 years old. It relies on mystique. Subject it to political criteria and the whole thing falls to dust. The late Queen Mother once compared it to Christmas tinsel, in that it shouldn’t be exposed to sunlight. Prince Philip said: ‘rationally it’s complete lunacy - but a lunacy people enjoy’. This tour celebrates what London does best: palaces, pomp, royal weddings, the Crown Jewels and the Changing of the Guard. It also takes take in the venues connected to the recent marriage of 'Will & Kate' and the Royal Diamond Jubilee.

First, it’s 'off with your head', as your guide takes you to the Tower of London. Gasp at the most incredible royal marriage saga of all: Henry VIII and his six wives, including the tragic tale of Anne Boleyn. Also see the Crown Jewels, king of bling! Along the way view the magnificent St Paul's Cathedral, where Prince Charles and Lady Diana took their vows in their spectacular, but ill-feted wedding in 1981. The view of the famous sweeping steps may jog some older memories, particularly that seminal moment when Diana stepped out of a golden fairy-tale carriage wearing 'that' dress.
● Usually open daily.
● Admission payable on entry.
● Your guide will conduct the tour.

Next, we enter the processional route known as The Mall, aka Royal High Street! We take a 'nosey mosey' around St James’s, the area synonymous with royalty with a number of palaces and aristocratic houses. For example, Spencer House, Princess Diana’s ancestral family home. Then we get as close as security will allow us to Clarence House, official residence of Prince Charles and Camilla, and maybe catch a glimpse of Princes William and Harry. St James's Palace, nearly 500 years old, is still the Queen’s official residence. There’s an opportunity to have a photograph in a genuine royal sentry box here, or even better, standing next to a real guardsman.

Next, we're off to Buckingham Palace to see the climax of the splendid Changing-of-the-Guard ceremony. All the Queen's horses and all the Queen's men in the kind of ceremony that only London does best. Your guide will bag you the best spot for photos, so make sure you have your cameras for this centuries-old pageant of colour. As we wait for the marching bands to strike up your guide will explain the ceremony, the regiments, and regale you with regal tales. After they have passed within a few feet of our vantage point, we march in step behind the guards up to Buckingham Palace, the most famous residence of the royal family in London, and where vast crowds on momentous days have cheered many a special balcony 'kiss'. Your guide will regale you with regal tales. Have you heard the one about the burglar of Buckingham Palace? A story so embarrassing to the royal family, government and security forces, the full truth may never be told.
● Usually daily during summer months, alternate days during rest of year.
● Free entry. An alternative may be arranged if it is not scheduled or cancelled.
● Your guide will conduct the tour.

A tour of the fascinating stables known as the 'Royal Mews' adjoining the side of Buckingham Palace. Here you can find out all about the Queen's horses and how they are looked after, as well as royal carriages and cars. This tour is offered during the months when the Buckingham Palace Tour is not available.
● Usually open daily.
● Admission payable on entry.
● Inhouse guides will conduct the tour.

During August and September there is an option to visit inside Buckingham Palace itself. This is an audio-guided tour which takes in the magnificent state rooms and gardens. If she's home the standard will be flying. We can't promise an invite for tea but we can promise you'll be impressed.
● Open daily August-September.
● Tickets must be pre-booked.
● Audio-guided tour only.

In the afternoon we visit the world famous Westminster Abbey where kings and queens have been crowned for a thousand years. The wedding of Prince William to Kate Middleton took place here on April 29, 2011. Prince William is the oldest son of Prince Charles and the grandson of the Queen. He is currently second in the line to the British throne. His mother was, of course, Diana, Princess of Wales, who was tragically killed in a Paris car crash in 1997. Kate Middleton, 5 months older than William, is the girl with the 'commoner' background, meaning she has no aristocratic bloodline. It is very unusual for heirs to the British throne to marry outside their 'stock'. So the scrutiny on her is massive, for one day she may be queen. William's grandparents, the Queen and Prince Philip, and his great grandparents, George VI and Queen Elizabeth, married here. It was also the venue for the memorable funeral of William's mother Diana. Your guide will take you through a gothic labyrinth where you’ll discover the tombs of the legendary royal women of the past, such as the Virgin Queen, Bloody Mary and Mary Queen of Scots.
● Usually open Mon-Sat. An alternative may be arranged for Sundays.
● Admission payable on entry.
● Your guide will conduct the tour.

Any one of the options above can be swapped for a tour of Kensington Palace, famous for royal history from the 17th to 21st centuries. Set at the western edge of Hyde Park, known as Kensington Gardens, the palace was the last home of Diana, Princess of Wales, and where she brought up her sons Princes William and Harry. Today it's the London home of 'William and Kate'. A young Victoria awoke here one day in 1837 to find out she was queen. Also on display is a collection of Diana’s dresses and the Queen’s outfits. The Orangery in the garden is a pleasant place for refreshments.
● Usually open daily.
● Admission payable on entry.
● Your guide will conduct the tour.
